Chronic Constipation

Chronic constipation and rectal evacuatory dysfunction (RED) is where you struggle to empty you bowels. It can cause discomfort, significant pain and quality of life. Changing of the diet or taking medication can alter the condition, however in some people conservative measure may not be sufficient to cure the problem. Severe chronic constipation can be related to poor bowel function or pelvic floor disorder. A correct diagnosis is fundamental to initiate the correct treatment. In selected cases surgery may be helpful. Surgical options include colectomy and laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy.
